Paper Disk Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 27, 2026
Last Updated: August 27, 2026
1. Introduction
Paper Disk is a local-first utility for creating encrypted printable backups from small files and restoring compatible Paper Disk PD1 archives from printed QR pages.
2. Summary
Paper Disk does not require an account and does not include ads, analytics, tracking services, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.
Paper Disk does not operate an account-based cloud service or a developer-controlled server for storing files, printed archives, or recovered content.
3. Information Paper Disk Does Not Collect
Paper Disk does not collect identity, account, advertising, analytics, tracking, precise-location, contacts, or usage-profile data.
4. Selected Files and Local Processing
Files are selected by the user. Paper Disk creation, encryption, QR encoding, scanning, verification, decryption, and recovery are performed on the user’s device. The developer does not receive or remotely access the selected file content.
5. Camera Access
Camera access is used to scan QR codes on printed Paper Disk pages. Camera images are processed for scanning and are not uploaded to a developer-operated server.
6. Encryption and Printed-Page Security
Paper Disk encrypts file content with AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption through Apple CryptoKit before encoding it into QR codes.
Paper Disk does not use a password. Anyone who obtains all required pages may be able to reconstruct the key and restore the file. Printed pages should be protected according to the sensitivity of their contents.
7. Visible Printed Metadata
The original file content is not stored as plain text in the QR codes. The file name, Paper Disk ID, page number, total-page information, and other archive information may remain visible on the printed pages.
8. Local Storage and Export
Generated PDFs and recovered files are saved or shared only when the user chooses a destination through the system interface. If the user chooses iCloud Drive or another external storage provider, that provider’s terms and privacy practices apply.
9. Compatibility with RetroNotes
Paper Disk can restore compatible PD1 archives created by RetroNotes. Compatibility processing remains local and does not transfer archive data to the developer.
10. No Account Required
Paper Disk does not require registration, login, or a user profile.
11. Email Support
If you contact support, the information you include is used only to respond to the request. Avoid sending private files or complete Paper Disk pages unless necessary.
12. Data Sharing
Paper Disk does not sell personal information or share information for advertising, analytics, or tracking.
13. Data Retention and Deletion
Paper Disk does not retain user files on developer-operated servers. Users control generated PDFs, recovered files, printed pages, and any copies stored on their devices or chosen storage providers.
14. Children’s Privacy
Paper Disk does not knowingly collect personal information from children and does not use advertising or tracking services.
15. Security
Security depends on the user’s devices, passcodes, operating systems, selected save locations, storage providers, printers, and physical protection of printed Paper Disk pages.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may be updated if Paper Disk changes how information is handled. The effective and last-updated dates appear above.
