About Paper Disk
Paper Disk creates encrypted printable A4 backups from small files and restores compatible Paper Disk PD1 archives by scanning their printed QR pages.
Common Support Topics
1. Create a Paper Disk
Choose a file up to 128 KB, create the Paper Disk, and export the generated A4 PDF through the system share or save interface.
2. File Size and Compatibility
The standalone app creates new Paper Disks from files up to 128 KB. It can restore compatible archives up to the complete 1.44 MB PD1 format, including compatible Paper Disks created by RetroNotes.
3. Print Every Page
Print every generated page at a readable scale. Avoid cropping QR codes, page information, or margins. Keep pages clean, flat, and free from heavy folds or marks.
4. Scan Every Page
Each page contains 9 QR codes. A page is confirmed only after all 9 codes on that page are scanned. Recovery begins after every required page is complete.
5. Camera Permission
Camera access is required for scanning and restoring a Paper Disk. If permission was denied, enable Camera for Paper Disk in system settings.
6. Improve Scanning
Use even lighting, avoid glare and deep shadows, keep the full printed page visible, and move the camera slowly. Flatten curled or folded pages before scanning.
7. Missing or Duplicate Pages
Duplicate QR codes do not replace missing data. A complete Paper Disk is required, and every required page must be scanned successfully.
8. Encryption and Page Custody
Paper Disk does not use a password. The information needed to reconstruct the encryption key is distributed across the Paper Disk pages. Anyone with all required pages may be able to restore the file.
9. Restore Failure
Confirm that every page belongs to the same Paper Disk, all 9 QR codes on each page have been scanned, and the pages are undamaged and readable.
10. Before Contacting Support
Include the device model, operating-system version, Paper Disk version, file type, original file size, number of pages, and the step where the process stopped. Do not send private files or complete Paper Disk pages unless necessary.
