RetroNotes Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 11, 2026

Last Updated: August 24, 2026

1. Introduction

RetroNotes Markdown is a local-file-based app for text, voice, visual, drawing, file transfer, and paper archive workflows. This policy explains how RetroNotes handles information.

2. Summary

RetroNotes does not require an account and does not include ads, analytics, tracking services, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

RetroNotes does not operate a developer-controlled server for storing your notes, drawings, exports, RetroDisk files, or Paper Disk files.

3. Information RetroNotes Does Not Collect

RetroNotes does not collect identity, account, advertising, analytics, tracking, precise-location, contact, or usage-profile data.

4. iCloud, Files, and Device Storage

Notes are stored as Markdown and TXT files on your device or in a location you choose. If you select iCloud Drive or another storage provider, that provider’s terms and privacy practices apply.

5. Voice Note and Speech Recognition

Voice Note records audio only while you hold the Voice Note button. Apple system speech recognition converts the recording into text. RetroNotes does not keep the original audio after processing.

6. Vision Note and Text Recognition

Vision Note lets you select photos or screenshots for Apple system text recognition. RetroNotes stores the recognised text and its relative layout in the note. Selected images may need to be downloaded by the operating system when stored in iCloud Photos.

7. Draw Note and Export

Draw Note stores hand-drawn strokes as note data in your selected data location. Draw Note does not use image recognition, speech recognition, or generative AI.

SVG, PDF, PNG, and PPTX exports are created only when you choose to export and select a destination. Drawings and exported files are not uploaded to a developer-operated server.

8. RetroDisk and Camera Access

RetroDisk uses the receiving device’s camera to scan optical transfer codes shown on the Mac screen. During the final stage, the Mac camera scans a request code shown by the receiving device.

Camera images are used only to complete the transfer. Camera images and transferred files are not stored by the developer or uploaded to a developer-operated server.

9. Paper Disk

Paper Disk creates a printable A4 PDF archive from a user-selected file. RetroNotes encrypts file content before writing the encrypted data into QR codes.

File name, page number, and ID may be visible on the printed pages. File content is not stored as plain text in the QR codes.

Paper Disk restore uses the device camera to scan printed QR codes. Camera images are processed to restore the selected file and are not uploaded to a developer-operated server.

Generated Paper Disk PDFs and restored files remain in the locations chosen by the user.

10. Recall and Local Index

Recall searches Voice Note records only. Recall uses a locally rebuildable index and may provide a conclusion with supporting sources when sufficient information is available.

Rebuilding the index does not delete the Markdown and TXT files that remain the primary data.

11. System Keyboard and Network Access

The Apple system keyboard, speech recognition, text recognition, camera, iCloud Photos, or a selected storage provider may require permission or network access as part of the operating system service.

12. No Account Required

RetroNotes does not require an account or login.

13. Email Support

If you contact support, the information you include is processed only to answer the request. Avoid sending private note content unless necessary.

14. Data Sharing

RetroNotes does not sell personal information and does not share information for advertising, analytics, or tracking.

15. Data Retention

Notes, drawings, local indexes, and exported files remain in the locations you choose until you delete them or the operating system or storage provider removes them.

16. Data Deletion

Delete notes or Draw Notes in RetroNotes. Delete exported files using Files, Finder, or the relevant storage provider. Rebuilding Recall removes and recreates the local index without deleting note files.

17. Children’s Privacy

RetroNotes does not knowingly collect personal information from children and does not use advertising or tracking services.

18. Security

Security depends on your device, passcode, operating system, selected storage location, backups, and storage provider.

19. International Use

System-service and storage-provider behaviour may vary by country or region.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This policy may be updated when RetroNotes changes how information is handled. The effective and last-updated dates appear above.
