About RetroNotes

RetroNotes Markdown is a local-file-based app for Text Note, Voice Note + Recall, Vision Note, Draw Note, RetroDisk, and Paper Disk. Notes are stored as Markdown and TXT files on your device or in a location you choose.

RetroNotes is a paid app with no ads, no account, no subscription, and no in-app purchases.

Common Support Topics

1. Text Note

Use the new-note button to create a Text Note. Write or paste content, then select Save. Search checks note titles and content.

2. Voice Note

Hold the green Voice Note button, speak briefly, then release. Apple system speech recognition adds the transcription to today’s Voice Note. Original audio is not kept after processing.

3. Recall

Create a Voice Note containing a clear fact. Hold Recall, ask a related question, then release. Recall searches Voice Note records and can show a conclusion with supporting sources when sufficient information is available.

Recall does not search Text Notes, Vision Notes, or Draw Notes. Use the regular search field for those notes.

If an expected Voice Note is missing, open Settings and rebuild the local memory index.

4. Vision Note

Tap the RetroNotes logo. Select one to nine photos or screenshots, then select Import. RetroNotes extracts text and preserves the relative position and size of recognised text regions.

5. Draw Note

Long-press the new-note button to open Draw Note. Draw directly on the paper without automatic shape correction. Use Undo and Redo as needed.

Use the paper button to choose an A, B, envelope, or US paper size. Rename or delete a Draw Note from its toolbar.

Export as SVG, PDF, PNG, or PPTX. PPTX keeps handwritten strokes editable in PowerPoint. Visually closed drawings can use colour fill while retaining their hand-drawn outlines.

6. RetroDisk

Open Settings on a Mac and an iPhone or iPad, then select RETRODISK. Use the Mac to display the transfer and the receiving device to scan it. Follow the on-screen request-code step when the transfer pauses.

RetroDisk does not require Bluetooth, AirDrop, a local network, a cable, an account, or an account-based cloud service.

7. Paper Disk

Open Settings and select PAPER DISK. Choose Create Paper Disk, then select a small file under 1.44MB. RetroNotes creates a printable A4 PDF archive.

To restore, choose Restore Paper Disk and scan every printed page. A page is confirmed after all 9 QR codes on that page are scanned. The file restores automatically when all pages are complete.

Paper Disk is intended for small important files. Keep all printed pages together or store them carefully. Missing pages may prevent restoration.

8. Notes and Local Files

Notes are stored as Markdown and TXT files. Draw Note export files are created only when you choose an export format and destination.

9. Custom Data Location

Choose a data location in Settings. Available locations depend on the device and operating system.

10. System Services and Network Access

The system keyboard, speech recognition, text recognition, camera, or iCloud Photos may request permission or network access.

11. App Purchase

RetroNotes is a paid app. It does not include ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

12. Before Contacting Support

Include the device type, operating-system version, RetroNotes version, and the steps that reproduce the issue. Do not send private note contents unless necessary.
